Barbary Set To Re-Open November 15, Conducts Panty Raid Of Pre-Existing Philly DJ Nights
We reported back in July that DJ John Redden, along with a group of investors, had purchased The Barbary at Frankford & Delaware Aves. — literally across the street from the proposed Sugarhouse site, and my, won’t we be psyched to have it there as a thorn in Fannypack Nation’s side when the time does come. Today comes the news that the club — large but having never enjoyed much in the ways of booking or loyal audiences in its previous incarnations — is set to open on November 15 with an all-star Philly DJ lineup that includes Dave P, Gregg Foreman, Emil and Bo (of White Tees & White Belts), Designer Drugs, Mike Z (of Sorted!/Making Time) and more. If that sounds like a roadmap for the musical directions in which the club is headed, well, it kind of is: Redden has also secured a number of pre-existing parties to move to his new venues, either as one-offs or monthlies. Among them: The aforementioned White Tees & White Belts, Dave P’s electro night [click.], legendary BritPop/new-school UK night Sorted!, the collegiate banger emporium that is Broadzilla, and funk/soul/raw groove nights The Turnaround and Intensified! In addition, Redden and his sister Danielle are also reviving the mega-popular Socket on Sundays, last seen at old school Silk City. Redden’s also promising a massive new sound system in the venue, as well megaclub-style lights and also the occasional live music show via Sean Agnew’s R5 Productions. Fellow club bookers, we’re feeling for ya today: Sounds like your jobs just got a little bit harder.
