Public Access Bills are Unanimously passed by City Council

MORE GREAT NEWS FROM PCAC!

This morning Bill Nos. 70793 and 70794 were unanimously passed by Philadelphia’s
City Council. The first bill approved the public access amendments to the City’s
Franchise Agreement with Comcast and the second approved the leasing of the
City-owned property at 2531 Lehigh Ave to the future Public Access Corporation.
This will be the future home of the public access studio and facilities.

We have successfully cleared the final legislative hurdle to establishing the
public access system!

Better late than never, right? In related news, employees at Philebrity HQ are going dutch and buying an Intellivision. More after the jump.

Next steps:

Within the next few weeks Mayor John Street and Council president Anna Verna
will sign the Articles of Incorporation for the non-profit that will oversee the
public access system. An interim board of directors in is the process of being
appointed. We are optimistic that Philadelphia’s first public access channel
will go on air in January 2008.

How you can continue to help:

WE NEED CONTENT. Spread the word and send in your videos, as PCAC is in the
process of compiling and extensive database of locally produced content to air
on Philly’s public access Channel 66. To submit your work, visit

Thank you to all PCAC members for your continued support.

The most amazing thing that happened in yesterday’s City Council meeting was the prayer held before the session started. The guy leading the prayer did the following things:

1.) Praised God for trancending all racial and cultural boundaries, and then thanked the “rock star Bono” for doing the same thing as a mortal.

2.) Prayed for god to help all of the neighborhoods that “have not yet been gentrified”. He actually used the word gentrified.

Utopia Was THE Intellivision game. Mano a mano, baddest strong man assured the stability of his island nation, dropping guerillas all over your neighbor.

Really, public access cable isn’t obsolete. Heavens forbid people actually have an opportunity to learn something about production and I dunno, maybe pick up some critical literacy in the process. I mean, while they won’t necessary be developing the critical faculties to smell the pothaze of Collateral News’ original analysis and documentation, at least they’ll be able to see them as the recycling of old news punditry they and other people’s footage they actually are. Besides, the Church of Satan needs an outlet in these parts for it’s syndicated program. Also, for some reason the 5% Islam crowd or whatever they are (you know the Afro-centric preaching on Market St. in the weekends with the UFOlogy bent?) hasn’t migrated to YouTube. You know they’re gonna take to the old school platforms. ShadowWorld and Cheesesteak Part 2 should not have exclusive DIY monopolistic cred to represent! Bring on the real truth!
