Captain Freeshit: Win Tickets To See A Place To Bury Strangers

strangersIt took a while for us to drink the Kool-Aid on Pitchfork favorite of the moment A Place To Bury Strangers — not because we don’t love their update of the Jesus & Mary Chain’s garage-pop scree, but just because, you know, we despise rock critics, think the ‘Fork is every bit as suspect as Rolling Stone, and so on. You know, we have issues. Not your problem. But what finally got us was the following bit in a news item about the band getting a show shut down at CMJ last week due to volume:

Fenton somehow convinced the cops to allow the band one more song, so APTBS did “Ocean”, the epic closing track from their self-titled album. “Police officers then reported back to their dispatch to say they were in the process of shutting the event down, but that they were letting the band finish their song first, because, (directly quoted from the officer): ‘This band is sick.’”

I mean, come on. If the cops bend the law so that you can bend minds, you must be doing something right. (Paying off the cops counts, too, but we don’t think that’s what’s going on here.) So when they play at Pi Lam on Saturday with LOP’s (Legends Of Philebrity) Trouble Everyday, you’d do well to put your space helmet on and let NYC’s self-proclaimed loudest band wash over you like so much psychocandy. Better still, we can assist. To enter to win, send an email to ihopeiwin[at]philebrity[dot]com with “THIS BAND IS SICK” in the subject header. We’ll pick a winner tomorrow at noon, but in the meantime, get with the sounds. Ow!
