We’ve Got Bad News That Sounds Like Septacular News

magicbus.jpgIf SEPTA wasn’t a few hours away from recommending a fare increase at this afternoon’s board meeting, we’d almost believe they cared about how those 400 hybrid buses they’re buying will positively impact the environment. However, we know this tricky bitch well, and their purchase of a fuel-efficient fleet comes at a time when they need to boost their public image. Do they not realize that most bus-ridin’ Philadelphians are still going to freak about a 15 cent increase, that no amount of eco-consideration is going to change that? A nickel and a dime is just a sip of beer over in Philebriland, and we know it’s half a bag of Rap Snacks to the rest of you, but if they pull this rope every year like they want to, there goes affordable public transportation and ridership. We’ve no qualms with supporting this hybrid switch, if SEPTA would at least be straight up about it, instead of digging themselves even deeper into a hole. Saving the environment doesn’t come cheap, but a girlfriend isn’t a free ride, either. Be prepared to pay up.
