Not Again: Art Swiped From M Room Walls
The rock-inspired art currently up at a just-renovated M Room took a hit this past weekend when thieves decided to take two pieces home with them. (This isn’t the first time art has gone missing from those walls.) The mixed-media pieces in question, created by local artist/musician Joe “Real Job Joe” Morris (playing in Daymaker at right), were as follows:
1) “I Live By the River” — 3 pictures of The Clash from the London Calling album on glossy 3-ft black painted board, surrounded by single records.
2) “Uncle Keith” — Antique, gold framed picture of Keith Richards.
Joe’s wife Lara posted a Myspace bulletin to get the word out about the theft, fingering “spoiled little hipster brats … and definitely not metal heads” as the likely culprits, based on what the pieces depict. Okay, this obviously sucks, but hipsters are to blame only if your definition of hipster includes the fake-beatnik, fake-rockabilly, and fake-punk dudes (and their girlfriends) who now lay claim to the M Room. I mean, The Clash and Keith Richards? Any self-respecting hipster would hold out for Bonde Do Role and Grizzly Bear.

The real ones are dead and buried. The fake ones say “groovy” and “cat” and “pad” a lot and only wish they were dead.
