From the Desk of This Week In Balls: Brooms
Michael Fichman reports: You remember how last week I threw a shit-fit about how alias Philly bloggers were repeatedly calling the Phils’ season “over?” Turns out my “I’m not a Philly fan, I just write about Philly sports” mentality has granted me a certain degree of level-headedness. The Phils sure as fuck ain’t dead, in fact, with King Utley back and Cole Hamels due to return, they’re ripping off wins against the division-leading Mets.
Today they go for a sweep of a four game series against the Metropolitans that would narrow the Phils’ defecit to a mere two games in the division and three in the Wild Card race. It’s a businessman’s (person’s?) special today — a 1:05 start. Daytime baseball: Nobody can actually see the damn game but it is pleasing to the Gods of Sport. So if you’re at the office or on the can and can’t get to an idiot box to watch the game go to ESPN.com’s scoreboard and dial up the gamecast.

This is too much. Hopefully the Braves can’t sink the Mets and we can get past the Fish for once.

As a lifelong Phillies fan, I am telling you: these guys will break your heart. They did it to my father in ‘64, to me in ‘77 and again in ‘93. Do not get your hopes up.
