Readers Write: The City Planning Commission Is Even More Clueless Than You Think

In case you all at Philebrity wanted to do a blow-by-blow week on the casino report — most recently Foxwoods getting its City Planning Commission, remember this little tidbit: the City Planning Commission (which recommended the plan to City Council [yesterday]) represents a collective zero years of planning experience. Them giving a rubber stamp is hardly a shocker, or an interesting test of design planning principles.

If they had a shred of planning experience, they would have asked about impact on small businesses — which recent reports suggest may be net job losses due to casino competition with neighboring businesses. Or the affect of having multiple 24/7 liquor licenses so close to neighborhoods. Or the impact to neighborhoods as people flee the casino area with a resulting real estate collapse.

Groan. Sometimes we wish we knew less about all of this.
