From The Desk Of Collin Flatt: You Stole Somebody’s Logo And You Looped It, You Looped It

What’s worse:
· a crappy logo concept by a local culturegossip blog?
· or a lifted from YOUR OWN BACKYARD/hack-y logo concept by a ‘top-tier’ advertising firm?
We’re not sure, but something about that whole ten-year-difference thing kinda says it all. Tell you what, Gyro: Meet us after work at the Five Spot and maybe we can hash all this out over a cosmo-tini and take in a Big Bad Voodoo Daddy show while we’re at it. And by the way, that chain wallet you guys are rocking? Soooo money.

Update: Note to the Comic Book Store Guys in the comments section: We’re only running that Phillies logo until the season’s over, as a show of support. Can’t a blog be a phan? Bitches.

Pennsylvania is the ________ State…Gyro is located in the state of ____________.
August 7th, 2007 at 9:30 am
Theres a big difference. I’m sure Sweeney, who has no design background did the “Logo”. GYRO on the other hand has been in the design/advertising industry since 1988 and for them to swipe a logo or just design a bad one for there own company, it kinda poo-poos on their own credibility especially when they throw themselves into the spotlight.

the logo was stolen from the Pennsylvania Lottery (which was also nominated for worst logo by Gyro itself). Get it right.

jeffrey… you make this all sound very personal. got beef?

since keystones have been around for centuries i guess using one in your logo and living in the keystone state you automatically stole it from another logo design.
August 7th, 2007 at 10:20 am
in all fairness it seems like both you guys pulled your logos from somewhere else… but philebrity… and i’m sorry cause i love ya… yours is a real eyesore.

No, I just don’t think they’re that great.

House Industries is a well-respected type foundry. They have a thorough knowledge of the craft of creating typefaces, and are well-versed in the history of type, especially mid-20C display faces. Much of what they do is done by hand. Try designing a typeface–or even recreating an earlier one, for that matter. It’s the most difficult project a graphic designer can undertake.

silly mortals – don’t you understand you are doing exactly what gyro wants you to do, which is talk about them. whether you like them or hate them, you gotta admit that mr. clean over there sure knows how to get a buzz going.

The point is, they’re calling shenanigans on others, and they are going to be held to the same standards. The keystone has nothing to do with it. It’s the blatant rte. sign concept. Lots of keystones in PA logo design, and that’s all well and good. But should a ‘heavyweight’ creative factory be putting out exhausted concepts?
On another note…Whims speaks some truth about the difficulty in creating a typeface…kerning pairs are a bitch.
