Most Improved, Or How We Still Won’t Win The Cup Next Season

8132907801.JPGWe were feeling pretty good/confused/just pretty after landing 9th Best Sports City over at Sporting News. Until we saw this Sports Illustrated piece calling the Flyers the NHL’s most improved team, and then we were riding a wave of satisfaction without even stopping for gas. So what have the orange & black been up to while you were over-analyzing every bead of sweat coming off of the Phils?

Holmgren, who replaced former GM Bobby Clarke a month into last season, took some time to assess his options before righting course. But over the last four months, he has moved out the ineffective, mistake-prone dinosaurs that symbolized the old-school Clarkian Flyers, and airlifted in a massive infusion of young, promising talent with a series of bold trades and free-agent signings that made the most of the team’s cap space.

Absorb that? No more dinosaurs, we’ve lifted goaltender Marty Biron from Buffalo, welcomed an influx of wingers and defensemen with sticks crafted out of promises, and now move forward in the ongoing saga of Jeff Carter, who continues to impress with each season. Everyone needs a hero, so you can’t forget center Daniel Briere, who will be our new celebrity cream and replace the Forsberg That Couldn’t. Tis better to be most improved than last season’s record-breakingly bad.

At least we’re not the Noo York Rangers (KA-POW!)

    “Foppa” may return, stay tuned.

We don’t need Foppa anymore. He and his trick ankle shall go wanting.

Jeff Carter continues to impress with each season, huh? All two of them? He took a few steps backwards last year methinks, but then again, so did everyone. He and Mike Richards need to establish themselves for realz this year.
