Stephen Starr’s Desire To Be Accepted By New Yorkers Now Causing Alzheimer’s

“I just notice that people seem freer,” said Stephen Starr, who opened Manhattan offshoots of his hit Philadelphia restaurants Morimoto and Buddakan early last year. “In Philadelphia people are very careful not to go too far. It’s a car city. I mean, we drive five blocks.”

Whaaaat? Oh, Stephen. You know we get the Times here, right? Right?

something tells me that well over 50% of his nightly reservations don’t drive with their own cars to his restaurants in Philly…

    man, what a crock.

  2. bangum smurf Says:

    whats this guy talkin about
I dont even know anybody that owns a car ?

  3. Sugar Town Says:

I don’t think the people who go to his restaurants are typical Philadelphians. As Robert was alluding, they probably own several cars.

  4. DJ-Lynne-Abraham Says:

i worked on some preliminary advertising for starr. they keep very careful track of their customer base (point-of-service systems + credit cards = instant market research), and a very high percentage of their clientèle comes from the suburbs, the whole “honey call the babysitter, let’s go to a fancy dinner in the city” crowd. so no shit they drive.

  5. Mezzanine Says:

much ado about a quote that wasn’t even the point of the article.. Shouldn’t you be soliciting stories from readers about sex in restaurants?? Far mo’ intersting.

  6. Sugar Town Says:

Saying you have a predominantly suburban clientele that drives and that Philadelphia is a car-centric city are two different things. Not that the NYT is the bastion of accurate reporting about the Sixth Borough ;)

  7. dougwallen Says:

    i often drive one block.

  8. drtheopolis Says:

    NYC doesn’t have SEPTA either.

  9. Patricio Says:

What a douche…for real. Any fucking place would be car-centric to NYC. Philadelphia is an extremely walkable city with many people WALKING. Only a few American cities are comparable in their walkabilty. Again…DOUCHE!

  10. EastChestnut Says:

    Philadelphians walk?

Have you guys seen what most Philadelphians look like? Picture Star Jones and Rosanne Barr.

Gotta shop for tail in the suburbs [like Villanova], cuz man… Jew-Penn got some fugly kids.
