>>> First and foremost, today is the official start of the 2007 Live Arts & Fringe Festival, which henceforth shall be referred to in these pages as simply “Fringe.” Our dedicated coverage of the Fringe begins in about an hour or so with the launch of our Fringe page on Philebs, so check back around [...]

>>> Philebrity Music has two clips of local music makers: The A-Sides at their recent record release party at Johnny Brenda’s and another clip from the recent in-studio performance from local rockers Beretta76 doing their song, “Black Beauty.” This is a double-dose of awesome, my dears.
>>> Clips We Love has a new episode of Dinner [...]

>>> Nothing we could ever add/snark to this headline would change its fundamental awesomeness: “Would-be space tourists to train in Phila. area.” Is there anything better than fools and their money? Hold that thought… [PBJ]
>>> Yes there is: Zooey Deschanel (pictured). Z-Rocker, currently in town for the M. Night un-thriller, was spotted yesterday eve in [...]

So, we were minding our own business, sitting in right field watching the Phils get absolutely p-u-m-m-e-l-e-d by the Padres last Friday night when the guy behind us (all 15 of us who stayed until the bitter end) starts in on Jayson Werth — “you’re WERTHless” — “Bobby Abreu had more heart” — “Bourn will [...]

>>> Do yourself a favor and scroll down on this page to where we talk about and play for you Silver Storms by The A-Sides. It’s a big record. The group celebrates it all with CD release party/benefit show for the Bottom Of The Hudson families at Johnny Brenda’s. Also on the bill The Capitol [...]

>>> How friggin’ maddening is it that everything Brian Tierney does becomes a “national trend”? Next up on the plate: Selling your HQ goes national. Never mind the fact that the real estate market in Philly is in the midst of an existential crisis and that the condo market has gone all Owen Wilson on [...]

>>> Fans of Carnivale, Harold & Maude and local realtor/actor Bob Murphy take note: The new video for The Teeth’s “You’re My Lover Now” (at right) features shades of all of these, not least Mr. Murphy in a leather vest beating up a guy with a shovel. Holy hell, that reminds us: Time to pay [...]

Michael Fichman reports: You remember how last week I threw a shit-fit about how alias Philly bloggers were repeatedly calling the Phils’ season “over?” Turns out my “I’m not a Philly fan, I just write about Philly sports” mentality has granted me a certain degree of level-headedness. The Phils sure as fuck ain’t dead, in [...]

Rats! Good grief. You know what little man would say. It’s really not that bad as long as you have a dog. You shouldn’t wear the same shirt every day unless it’s a really perfect shirt. Going bald early sometimes cannot be helped. And of course, Lucy Van Pelt is my hero. Grab those nuts [...]

>>> Collateral News investigates the abhorrent practice of installing rioters at peaceful demonstrations. Who would want to do this? Well, the police, of course. To–get this–justify their use of excessive force on the unwitting, peaceful demonstrators. How fucked up is that? Luckily we have Team Collateral to pull back the curtains and expose this shameful [...]

We’ve been giving with the house bud and Google before, but never have we gone to such heights with the Googz. GoogleMaps Flight Sim allows you to click on Philly and soar over it in a rather dizzying way using images collected from GoogleMaps. This would have been scary-meta to you if it was still [...]

How many interns did it take to come up with the new Steven Singer logo? One and all of ten minutes, generous? Gyro’s new look for Steven Singer Jewelers doesn’t have the same wack charm of the original I HATE STEVEN SINGER branding. To pop on a billboard these days, you have to think [...]

The record we bring to you today on The Philebrity Player is one that’s near and dear to our hearts, to be sure. The A-Sides‘ Silver Storms, presented here in full three weeks before its release, has been alive for us so long only in the realm of hand-burned CD-R that we’ve worn grooves into [...]

Guess you heard that Fiddy was in town yesterday for the Booker Show on Q102, or to further his image as the Anti-Kanye. But according to photographer Christopher Gabello, he wasn’t just gettin’ feisty on air:
“Dude, he almost took me out. I caught him right before he took off for NYC.”
Good thing you weren’t holding [...]

>>>Did you think LaBan-Face was losing momentum? Naw, it’s still going for NY Mag, who continue to spoon LaBan his just desserts. In Grub Street, he is referred to as “the worst of all American critics at preening his ridiculous disguises and costumes.” Pass the salt. [NY Mag]

Today at 1:00 pm a press conference will take place at 30th Street Station announcing a taxi cab driver strike for Wednesday, September 5th. The drivers are striking over their dissatisfaction of the GPS units that are installed in all Philadelphia taxi cabs.
Press release after the jump.

>>> Philebrity Music has an exclusive in-studio performance from local rock heroes, Beretta76, doing their song, “Pegasus” at Philly’s own 1935 Studios. They have a very Breeders-like vibe going on, which we can definitely hang with.
>>> We keep the songs spinning as Kid Kreyol dishes out some rad drum clips from their recent live performance [...]

>>>Willy Penn gets to be a freshman again. The 37-foot hunk of stone on top of City Hall is getting his first bath in ten years. That includes waxing. Just because the building he reps is dirty dirty in every which way, doesn’t mean that good William should not be well-groomed. [KYW]
>>>And how about a [...]
