This Weekend: Aussie Love, Punk Rock Boot Camp And Antioxidants
You might not know about any of this since Myspace bulletins have been down all day (DJ Deejay, what have you filled your time with this afternoon?), but we can fill you in on the only things you need to know about. Let’s get to it…
FRIDAY
>>> If you missed Jay Reatard perform last night at Johnny Brenda’s you are still in luck. Not only will he be performing live, on the sidewalk in front of the awesome Sailor Jerry store in center city, but there will also be free beer from Triumph. Thank you summer fun gods. We owe ya one. 6:30pm.
>>> At Tritone tonight there is a killer show put together, in part, by our pal Cool Doug. He has just returned from a year of love in Australia, and brought Sly Hats and Guy Blackman to our dear Philly to lay it down for you, Aussie style. Fans of Canaanes, et al, step to this. Brown Recluse Sings headlines.
>>> As we mentioned earlier this week, [Click.] brings it back to Fluid and we have some free passes. Hit it up. Simultaneously, Paperstreet helps unveil the brand spankin’ new honkin’ huge club called Level in Center City. Tommy Up promises the fun on this one, and has some killer DJs lined up for the first big party there. Do us a favor, check it out and report back. We don’t want to be the first ones in line. Email your experiences to tips[at]philebrity[dot]com.
SATURDAY
>>> Not to be missed is Brian Adoff’s Punk Rock Boot Camp, open sessions of which are held every Saturday at Penn Treaty Park. Brian is a certified trainer, but he is also an actor, and a Philly kid with a DIY attitiude. You don’t have to pay Bally’s $50 a month to get in shape, you can do it in our favorite park, listen to good music and hang with Brian. $5 and a towel is all you need. OK, fatty, maybe two towels.
>>> It’s confirmed: Watching Full House completely destroyed any chance you had at making socially acceptable decisionswhen choosing roommates. You didn’t know it as a kid, but you now sorta understand why your parents watched the show so nervously. If you want to re-live their anxiety, you could check out Full House Live at Plays and Players Theater. It promises to be creepy as hell in that mildly taboo T.G.I.F. kind of way.
>>> They’re not players, they just kwassa a lot: Public Record at Johnny Brenda’s. Recommended for fans of Fela Kuti, The Style Council and the intersection thereof.
>>> Oh, snap, it’s Saturday night and your PS2 version of Dance Dance Revolution broke down. Fear not. Bleached Black is at Medusa; Sorted! comes home to the new Silk City.
SUNDAY
>>> The North Star Bar brings some of the best of West Philly to you with Bad News Bats! See, we can be nice. As long as we don’t have to spend $20 on a cab. Peace love all around.
>>> Oh man, it is Sunday. As summer slips by we feel it is our duty to tell ya’ll about something you might be missing, that will soon be gone. The Food Trust (in our opinion one of the more important non-profits around) has once again made it easier to eat local, fresh fruits and vegetables. Added this year to the list of pop-up farmer’s market is Headhouse Square. Check it out Saturday and Sunday from 10-2. You might need some antioxidants after the weekend you just had.

we shall be feasting on the lithe bodies of the underworld at ulana’s. though the bourgeois flesh of the middle class goth children tastes much more like overcooked flank steak. we are not in a position to complain about our meal options.

“· 9-year-olds are robbing/harassing Penn students. Frankly, we’re taking a survival-of-the-fittest stance towards this.”
