From The Desk Of J. Conor Corcoran: If A KKK Rally Falls In The Forest, Does Anybody… Oh, Never Mind
This past Friday, and yesterday, Center city office denizens were erroneously abuzz with fears of gap-toothed Jethros and their wife beater bearing Berthas descending upon – oh, Irony, you randy little minx – Love Park for what would have undoubtedly proven to be a hootenanny of progressive proportions.
But, as befitting their haberdashery of choice, they poofed into nothingness. If anybody showed up to cause a ruckus, it was apparently the ANTI-racist crowd, who in grand recollection of the 2000 Republican National Convention, got themselves arrested for acting the fool.
But here’s the thing. Nobody knows IF the event never happened, or even when. It was apparently the genesis, this past Friday, of some anonymous phone calls to local police, who then contacted area buildings and businesses (containing, among others, The Israeli Consulate, the Anti-Defamation League, and other objects of the Klan’s affection), and then the media found out about it. However, there’s no reports of anything occurring on Friday, or yesterday, contrary to the ravenous rumor that rippled throughout the 16th and JFK area.
In fact, the only site we found was the Philadelphia Independent Media Center, who reported what a non-event it was, at http://www.phillyimc.org/en/2007/07/41271.shtml. This hullabaloo about nothing bears a few points worth bearing:
1) What the hell is going on these days that the good guys are getting pinched? It’ll be a sunny day in Philadelphia when these legions of the left realize that attacking the guys who are protecting you from the KKK is just as offensive as living in a West Philly hovel with no deodorant. Your message just gets lost in the noxious haze.
2) Etc., etc., etc.
J. Conor Corcoran is a Philadelphia l’homme du loi, and otherwise a loveable, ineffably scruffy man of the people with no patience for their idiocy.
