This Weekend: The Rebel, The Storyteller, The Snake Charmer!
FRIDAY:
>>> You know who’s psyched about Morrissey getting postponed? Every band and DJ in the city. You all dodged a bullet with this one, bitches. But special recognition should go out this week to one man for having his promo game ON regardless, and that is Shawn Kilroy and his band Hessians, who made the ad above for his band’s show at Tritone tonight. Mr. Kilroy, you single-handedly just raised the bar for show flyers in Philly. Congratulations. With The Sky Drops and Extravagant Bastard.
>>> Other folks who’ll surely reap the rewards of Morrissey’s sore throat: B.C. Camplight, who co-headline with The Cobbs at Johnny Brenda’s. We told you a little while back how the new BCC album is heating it up in the U.K. right now, right? Well, check it: He’s up for “Single Of The Week” on BBC Radio and you can vote for him here. The tune is, “Lord, I’ve Been On Fire,” and it goes like this:
>>> DJ nights to sweat: The BYOB West Philly electrofunk freakout that is Make Out City, with Andrew Gaspar, Apt One, Honkeytron, JJC, Operant77, Sebastian Petru, Stepchild, Whyte Hot — more info at Westwax Collective. Crimp Your Hair VS. Muhahaha at Sal’s, but definitely NOT Crescendolls at Goji for at least 4-6 weeks.
SATURDAY:
>>> ROAD TRIP: Sometimes we think all these Allentown people — Pissed Jeans, Brother JT, the whole multigenerational freaky mindfold — are onto something so deeply trippy they may be erecting a whole new society out there based on drugs, psychedelic music and fun. Case in point: Eric DeJesus‘ Virginville Film Festival. It’s in a barn somewhere in Virginville, PA (a place you kinda wanna be ANYWAY, right, promisekeepers?) and you have to email dude for the exact location. Done.
>>> Not really wholeheartedly feeling anything happening in the city that night, but hey, that’s just us. Plenty of stuff in listings.
SUNDAY:
>>> The loooong Fourth of July slide officially begins with our buddy “Wild” Kyle Andrews DJing brunch at Johnny Brenda’s. Kyle knows everyone in the city, has a record collection like whoa, and knows what you need to know: Living well is the best revenge.
>>> Sundae open-air-dance-party things at the Bubble House. The weather should be delightful.
>>> Meanwhile, it’s also Canada Day. Oh, you don’t know Canada? It’s that place we’re all moving to after the Democrats fuck up the next election.

Snake Charmer! If it wasn’t my birthday I’d be there in a heartbeat. Play well Shawn.

Don’t be hating on the A-town. We can go country AND ghetto on your asses. That’s how we roll now that The Bronx moved into and took over downtown A-town. You want to see some crazy shit? Take a ride down south 5th Street in A-town. That shit would rip off Nelly’s grillz with a tire iron and not even stop walking.

One more thing – Canada blows. Eff Canada.
