Breaking: City Council To Boy Scouts — Get Gay Or Get Gone
From the Philadelphia Gay News email list:
This morning in Philadelphia City Council, Councilman Darrell Clark introduced legislation to evict the Boy Scouts from their headquarters on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway; the land that the building sits on is leased from and owned by The City of Philadelphia. In part, this legislation came about because of the Boy Scouts discriminatory policies. The legislation passed with only one negative vote in favor of the Boy Scouts — the single vote against was cast by Republican Councilman Brian J. O’Neill. If the scouts decide to stay on this city property, they will have to negotiate with the city to pay market value. (this story is still developing and we have not received the exact wording in the legislation as yet)

To make matters worse (and you should confirm this) - I believe that the Boy Scouts in that building are a historic first chapter of the organization…founded in that building! They have all sorts of truly historic documents from Presidents and foreign leaders who wrote them at that address. I wonder if the local chapter even knew the vote was HAPPENING?
