State Of New Jersey Vows To Destroy Fat Babies, Give Poor Grades To The Ones Who Survive

At 17.7 percent, the state has the highest percentage of overweight kids under age 5, according to a 2004 federal survey. It also has a large population of black and Latino youths, who have been found likelier to be overweight than white kids.Dr. Fred Jacobs, who heads the state Department of Health and Senior Services, noted it’s easier to instill good dietary and exercise habits in kids than in adults. One idea, he said, is for report cards to include an assessment of students’ weight.
