Local AM Radio Station Defines Self With On-Air Poetry Slams And Rusted Root
We have not really revisited Skin Radio, the alt-rock fate visited upon the legendary black talk radio station WHAT, since the whole weird thing happened. But last night, don’t even ask us how, we wound up listening to their stream, and a weird thing happened: We fucking loved it like a puppy with one of those lampshade things around its head. I mean, don’t get it twisted, Skin Radio plays some of the most seriously bunk music currently out there. But at the same time, this is like the Gilmore Girls of radio stations: delightfully grubby, making cotton candy out of lowered expectations, the whole thing. Also, it’s on AM Radio, which in 2007 is downright charming. In the last half hour, we have heard Rusted Root, a strange little “Skin Radio Poetry Slam” segment which was not a joke at all but actually some dude very sincerely reading a poem, and then a station ID that was all like, “SKIN RADIO: WE! WILL! BE DIFFERENT!” And we’re like, “You know what, Skin Radio? You already are!” Aww. Now play me some Temple Of The Dog, bitches!
SkinRadio: Vive La Difference!
