Musical Rumblings: Fancy Lads!
>>> This NY Times article about DJ AM from yesterday’s Sunday Styles section revealed much, much more than we ever knew about this star-fuckin’, sneaker-hoardin’ DJ. 1. He used to be fat, like really fat, like Ben Franklin fat, but he got his stomach stapled, and now he’s healthy as a horse, yo. Just like Carnie. 2. He used to be a crack head, while fat. 3. He is from Philly. 4. He hates rich people his friends and audience. I think we like him now. [NYTimes]
>>> Esper Greg Weeks‘ avant-garde art film soundtrackers, the Valerie Project just announced dates in the UK with Devo and Jarvis Cocker. Holy shit. [Southbank Centre]
>>> Just when you thought your pink Izod was leading the charge in preppy chic, the a cappella super group The Silver Ages comes along and cold reinvents the whole game, yo. Comprised of members of Windsor for the Derby, The Capitol Years, National Eye, The War on Drugs, Like Moving Insects, Pepper’s Ghost, The Trouble With Sweeney (but not Sweeney hisself, that bitch can’t sing), Fan of Friends, Mitch Fiction, and more, they can and will charm the pants off anyone within ear shot. They are performing May 13 at L’etage with The Spinto Band. [MySpace]
Bonus Round: Attn. jazzbos: Fairly crazy Miles Davis in Philly bootleg circa 1975 here. Just thought you should know. [NothingIsV2.0]

I liked the DJ AM profile, though all the bio “shockers” were stuff I already knew, and I’m not even that plugged in to him. I also thought he was spot on about what “duh clubs” are about these days. Hell, you and Tommy Up mock the “bottle service” scene yourselves all the time. He makes more of a profit margin off the nonsense than you guys, so you cry fowl? Nothing wrong with saying, ‘I can’t believe these idiots are paying me for this shit’. Anycase, he comes off a lot better than the Fred Durst profile that ran the same day.

I wonder if The Silver Ages flutter their eyelashes as they deliver bashful head nods a la Peter and Gordon. I really, really do.
(Congrats, Compoundians!)

THat was a nice article on Dj am, a local guy who, regardless of the tabloid exposure, is arguably the top skilled party dj in the country. The jabs at him weren’t funny and the fact that you guys report on djs all the time, yet didnt know any of this stuff about AM says a lot about your qualifcations on critiquing djs. fyi, jazzy jeff was once in a rap group with will smith.
