This Week On The Philebrity Player: Sunsplit!
We love it when this happens, when the new tall elegant cool kids move to town and quietly stake a claim on something timeless. This is how the myth should go for Oakland-to-Philly’s Sunsplit, a husband-and-wife duo who positively radiate both glamour and doom, in a way that we frankly have not seen since the days of the Mary Chain, Lush and My Bloody YouKnowWho. Aislinn and Ryan Van Kreidt have done something else that hasn’t been done in a while: They found Nick Cave cowering in an undusted corner of the shoegaze genre. (They also promptly joined The Asteroid #4, which people do all the time.) As a result, Sing For Sunday, this week’s record on The Philebrity Player, reminds you of those crazy high-art video montages from the ’80s where the cool girl from the “How Soon Is Now?” video is interrupted by Diamanda Galas screaming blood and chocolate at a mirror sky. Followed by time-lapse footage of a daffodil in bloom.
It kind of goes without saying that we really like this, and we take great pride in being the welcome wagon for Sunsplit. So here they are. Adopt them into your hearts, and let Psychedelphia 2.0 continue to regenerate like so many flowers.
