All Mayoral Candidates Invited To Speak
PHILADELPHIA, PA (April 2, 2007) ‚Äî Philebrity.com, Philadelphia’s leading arts/culture/gossip/media/politics blog, is proud to present a special DVD release screening of Tigre Hill’s The Shame of a City. Released last year at the Philadelphia Film Festival, The Shame Of A City is a documentary which chronicles the 2003 mayoral election. Director Tigre Hill follows the political and media fallout stemming from the discovery of an FBI bug planted in Mayor John Street’s office just 27 days before the election. Before its discovery, Republican Sam Katz had a slight lead in the polls; however, by the time of the election, the Street campaign had spun the bug so far into their own favor that Street took the election by a landslide. In The Shame Of A City, Hill tells the story of spin going out of control, a mainstream media regurgitating the same in amplified form, and the detrimental effects inflicted upon Philadelphia as a result.
The DVD version of the film will be released on April 10th; to celebrate, Philebrity will play host with a free screening and Q&A session at The Trocadero on Wednesday, April 11 at 7pm. The event will be a part of the New Rules project, a get-out-the-vote effort between Philebrity and TheNextMayor.com. As such — and because the film addresses so many of the issues being raised in the current mayoral election — all of the present mayoral hopefuls have been invited to speak after the film. Audience members will also have the
chance to have their questions fielded by Tigre Hill.
