Milton’s Great Gift To Philadelphia: Getting Bob Brady Thrown Off The Ballot
When we saw this Daily News article this morning about how Bob Brady failed to list his city pension on his financial disclosure form, we thought, “Big whup. This is Philadelphia, where errors of omission are more common than, well, people who know how to read.” The article went on to say that, if one of the other candidates had a mind to, they could go to court and try to have Brady thrown off the bill. But for some reason, we didn’t think any of the candidates would: Money’s a sticky issue in this election, and if you’re gonna go after somebody, go after Tom Knox, who is basically trying to buy that shit like it was a delicious Quizno’s sub. But we were wrong. Dead wrong. Because we weren’t thinking about T. Milton Street.
Milton Street, the mayor’s indicted brother, says he’s going to court to have Congressman Bob Brady tossed off the mayoral primary ballot because Brady failed to list some income when he filed to run this week.
[...]Street says his effort will test whether city judges are beholden to Brady as head of the Democratic party:
“We’re going to challenge it, and we’re going to see if the courts are going to rule across-the-board for everybody, or if they’re going to make exceptions for the chairman of the Democratic City Committee.”
On one hand, yes, Milton is batshit crazygonuts. We all know this. On the other hand, yes, legally, this can happen. There is precedent for candidates getting thrown off for not disclosing their money game. Just ask Vern Anastasio, who ran into a snag like this when he ran for Council back in ‘03. Besides which ‚Äî and this is just us ‚Äî we have been dreading very much the entire Brady candidacy; not as much for Brady’s lack of forward-thinking policy or Duh Factor, but more because he’s very much Old Philadelphia Machine, where the Machine just gets the Unions to lean on people to vote for whoever the Unions want in office. And if you know anything about this election, you know that it’s about New Philadelphia, not Old Philadelphia. Old Philadelphia can get the gas face.
Apparently, Milton agrees.
