Inky “Express” An Even Sillier Idea Than Originally Expected

pentagramYesterday, we reported on the new “Express” edition the Inky has slated to launch in February. With details being sketchy, we could only assume that Tierney & Co. had an eye towards the free-daily market the Metro presently owns. The reasoning would be sound: Deliver advertisers a captive commuter audience, and give readers a quick blast of headlines and ‚Äî in the Inky’s case ‚Äî get lots of people who’d given up on the Inky long ago back in the habit of consuming some kind of Inky product. It made sense. But then someone forwarded us this more accurate description of the “Express” that is circulating around Broad & Whatever:

We will launch The Inquirer Express, a full-page synopsis of stories in each day’s paper starting Monday, Feb. 5.
The page, which is designed to provide a quick overview of stories in that day’s paper, will be anchored on the back of the Sports section each day. The Express will have a short summary of the best stories from every section of the paper and will be a color page that will also feature stand-alone photos and graphics.

So scratch all that theorizing about the Inky taking on a bold new business model. This is really just a page on the back of the regular paper that dad can rip out of the sports section and take with him to the can, so as not to befoul the rest of the paper for the entire family. Which we suppose is some kind of new idea, but really, guys. Really.
