January 23, 2007NUTTER SHOCKED AND DISMAYED AT THE SNUB OF ROCKY BALBOA AT THE OSCAR NOMINATIONS
Philadelphia, January23, 2007— With tongue firmly in cheek, Mayoral Candidate Michael Nutter expressed his shock and dismay at the Academyof Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for their oversight in not giving a best picture nod to Rocky Balboa.
“This was a tremendous movie,” said Nutter. “And I don’t understand how this movie was overlooked. I mean, at the very least it should have received a nod for those beautifully shot fight scenes.”
When informed by a Philadelphia newspaper film critic that there was not an Oscar category for specific scenes in a film, Nutter shook his head sadly and said, “The original Rocky showcased Philadelphia and won three awards 30 years ago. A new category should have been started just for Rocky Balboa.”
We’re starting to like this guy more every day. The rest after the jump.
The Oscar nominations were announced in Los Angeles at 5:30 a.m. today, 8:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, with the musical Dreamgirls leading the pack with eight nominations and Babel following closely with seven nominations, including Best Picture.
The Mayoral Candidate is a big film buff and a great cheerleader for Philadelphia, so he decided to have fun with the nominations today. “In all seriousness, I am upset that Rocky Balboa was shut out of the nominations. It would have been a great opportunity to showcase Philadelphia in a positive light,” said Nutter. “And of course it deserved it,” Nutter continued with a smile.
