It Was 20 Years Ago Today: Budd Dwyer
I thank the good Lord for giving me 47 years of exciting challenges, stimulating experiences, many happy occasions, and, most of all, the finest wife and children any man could ever desire.
Now my life has changed, for no apparent reason. People who call and write are exasperated and feel helpless. They know I’m innocent and want to help. But in this nation, the world’s greatest democracy, there is nothing they can do to prevent me from being punished for a crime they know I did not commit. Some who have called have said that I am a modern day Job.
And with that, one of the most infamous moments in Philly TV history. Wherever you are, Budd, we still want you to know: That was a seriously fucked up thing to do.

Today is a happier anniversary for me: my father had a quadruple bypass on the very same day at Presbyterian Hospital. Twenty years later, and the man is still driving my family crazy; happy 20th, Papa Whimsy!

What’s almost as disturbing as the video are the crass comments of the LiveLeak viewers. “Classic?” “Great video?” What the fuck is wrong with you people? I also never understood what compelled the cameraperson to zoom in on Dwyer’s bleeding skull.
