This Weekend: Heaven Looks Like This

FRIDAY:
>>> That’s a shot from Space 1026’s contribution to Locally Localized Gravity, ICA’s new show spotlighting the Philly phenom of galleries as event producers, and I mean, wow. Look at that. Also included in the show: Black Floor, basekamp, and more. Opens tonight at 6pm, and if you go to one crazy looking drawbridge wonderland this weekend, make it this one. Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania, 118 South 36th Street.
>>> This, we are confident, is an eternal awesome nighttime fun equation: Pansexual Dance Party + Pirate Theme = FUN. Bearing that in mind, Sex Dwarf: Walk The Plank seems like a sure thing. What’s really nice about this is that at some point, you just know somebody is gonna use their eye patch as a thong. Fluid.
SATURDAY:
>>> The show reads like a Philly Pop ‘07 primer: BC Camplight/Hail Social/Bitter Bitter Weeks at Johnny Brenda’s. All three bands on the verge of birthing new records, so you know they got the fire. If any three of these names are new to you, Google them all and then write us a letter telling us how the hell you wound up reading Philebrity.
>>> And The Sw!ms are always fun, too. At the North Star.
SUNDAY:
>>> New Domino Records signing Benjy Feree drops by the Johnny Brenda’s along with a new band we’re muy curious about: Public Record. For one thing, they have a saxaphone, and we have been secretly wishing for a sax comeback since like 2003, and for two, they are instrumental in this crazy hybrid of Factory Records clackity British funk, old soul dance 45s and Balkan boogie a la early Camper Van Beethoven. We hit them up for some mp3s to share with the class, so check ‘em out.
Public Record: “Heavy Ornament” [mp3]
Public Record: “Fake Rain” [mp3]
