I know someone who used to work at Foxwoods Casino at their Connecticut location. Apparently because they are an American Indian casino they are a sovereign nation and don’t have to follow some USA work practices the employees are not organized by union. Like Walmart, they keep employees hours in certain brackets to get out of paying certain benefits, and over time. The employees have been trying to organize in some way, and to get their voice heard they have a walkout planned for tonight [New Years Eve] to get their voices heard.
Something to look forward to with the Foxwoods Casino coming to our fair city, and raises questions about how they will treat all the folks that work there. I wonder how they will address the union issue here since Philadelphia is such a union driven town.
And how!

Working without the benefit of looking it up, I think that a difference is that the CT location is actually on a reservation which is a sovereign nation and US laws don’t necessarily apply, but that in Philadelphia they’d be treated like any other employer. Foxwoods can still treat employees like shit, but, like every other employer, will have to go to the trouble of circumventing US Labor laws to do so.
