Pearl Theater In North Philly Opens, And Somehow, We’re The Only People With A Picture Of It

NORTH PHILADELPHIA — With the gala red carpet opening for the first movie theater in North Philadelphia to open in 60 years going on across the street, Stanley Daniel was trying to get movie times.“Is the new ‘Van Wilder’ playing here?” he asked, while the well-dressed patrons inside ate popcorn and hors d’oeuvres at the opening of the Pearl Theatre at the new Avenue North complex on Broad Street last night.
The theater, part of a retail and residential complex built by Philadelphia developer Bart Blatstein, will serve Temple students like Daniel and community residents alike.
We also got a kooky picture of Blatstein, John Street and Ed Rendell, looking very Three Amigos at the grand opening, but we’re saving that one for a caption contest. Can’t give it all away, you know. P.S. We were dying to make the Van Wilder joke, too, but God damn it if someone didn’t already get to it.
