This Week On The Philebrity Player: The Cobbs Sing The Death Capades

cobbsFor years now, Bucks County boys The Cobbs have been living like total and complete rock stars right under your nose, making one iteration of bad-ass, Brit-infused fuzz rock after another. Having started off as Ty Cobb, then taking a breif respite at the moniker Mad Action when the estate of the real Mr. Cobb got antsy, they have finally arrived at, quite simpy, The Cobbs. Somewhere in there, they also made records with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and shared stages in the UK with The Strokes, The Pretty Things, Babyshambles and so on, and also played some thing that nobody bothers with much called the READING FESTIVAL. All of which is odd stuff to do before you, you know, arrive. But all of that old-fashioned prep work has paid off in a major way on The Cobbs Sing The Death Capades. It’s a spacey yet dignified sound, lovelorn like the Doves but also reckless like Spiritualized. This Thursday night, the group is playing some bar in Dublin, so make that if you can. But if not, they’re also playing the Khyber on November 22. Until then, as always, we’ve got you covered.

And by the way: We’d like to congratulate our partners in the Philebrity Player, Apollo Audio, on having majorly stepped up their game as of late. Both this and last week’s Philebrity Player, The Walkmen’s Pussycats, are available at the Apollo site as $8 full-album downloads, free of cheesy DRM, along with lots of other great records, hand-selected by the Apollo Audions. And if you’re in the New York area tomorrow night, do stop by the Apollo Audio Official Launch Party at Union Pool in Brooklyn.
