Insult people’s supposedly profound spiritual beliefs and you’ll be ignored. But say hipsters are dicks or DJs are talentless con artists and you’ll be swamped by gibberingly furious goateed morons in ridiculously baggy trousers. Say God’s a bit of a nutter and folks just shrug. But point out that all vegans are quasi-Nazi, human-hating species-traitors, and swarms of shrieking, mung-bean curry-reeking fat hippies will come waddling after you, farting furiously and leaving vast piles of stinking dung in their wake.
Somehow, we feel responsible, but we just can’t figure out how. It’s not that he’s wrong, it’s just that he’s… wrong. Sigh.

who the hell refers to “hipsters” as “furiously goateed” and wearing “baggy pants”? what year are we in – 1993? i would think that before someone starts slagging off an entire clique of people that they would at least have the decency to pick up an issue of nylon and get with the century. dude just fully dated himself.

It is astonishing that Steven Wells has a job. Some smarty should look through every piece of shit he’s written for the weekly and see if there is one week where he doesn’t mention one of the following: Radiohead; Coldplay; U2; The Pixies; The Grateful Dead etc etc. Some weeks I think he does back-to-back Coldplay stories. Does he ever get bored. He has been doing this, exactly this, for at least ten years. He drove the NME into the ground in the late ’90s with his relentlessly hollow garbage and the mag has never been the same again. It’s not just that he’s a boor… he’s not smart. Swells you are done.
