And Now… THE PHILEBRITY FALL PREVIEW!

Editor’s note: This Fall, Philebrity will be proudly entering into its third year of bitch-slappin’, party-down existence. To be honest, we never, ever thought we’d make it this far. And we couldn’t have done it without you, the faithful readers and folks who make this city a newly minted, seemingly-unstoppable cultural force and beacon. So before we roll out some of this fall’s events ‚Äî especially The Second Annual Philebrity Weekender ‚Äî please know that you are on our minds and that we hope to make your Autumn ’06 as bangin’ as humanly possible. We heart you guys.

junior boysYesterday, we rolled out the new album by Junior Boys on The Philebrity Player. This Friday at the North Star Bar, we’re honored to be presenting Junior Boys with guest DJs Dryw Scully and Dev 79. As the fall goes on, we’ll be presenting more and more shows of local, national and international artists. Our involvement with this kind of thing is less about the dough than it is what we try to do here every day ‚Äî turn people on to the music that we love, the music that moves us. We’re psyched to have the Junior Boys/Dryw’s birthday jam as our big fall kick-off. Please join us. It’s gonna be a cake-in-your-pants style good time.

sept 30Oh, and don’t even front: Series 1021, our ongoing event series in conjunction with Tower Investments, is still raging on. Get with the Myspace page for up-to-the-minute details, but please also save the date now for the Sept. 30th Street Fair & Rock Show, which should be the biggest block party we’ve done yet, incorporating both Hancock Street and the newly repaved/soon-to-reopen Germantown Ave. in Northern Liberties. So far, we know that Relay, American Sneakers, Future Tips and more will be playing, and we’re also looking for vendors and craftspeople for a mega yard sale/trunk show happening. If you’d like to get a table please contact ruth[at]philebrity[dot]com right away.

weekenderLast year, The Philebrity Weekender was the event that, in many ways, defined us and to be sure, inspired us to keep on keepin’ on. The idea is/was fairly simple: To take a long weekend, Thursday through Sunday, and book a whole host of venues and parties to celebrate and expose the Philly music we write about here each week. This year from October 12 thru 15, the weekend is back and bigger than ever. Tentative venues include Johnny Brenda’s, The Fels Planetarium at The Franklin Institute, Transit, Surreal Sound, Hancock Street and more; bandwise, we’re talking Favourite Sons, Dr. Dog, Plastic Little, Yah Mos Def, VIP, Pissed Jeans, Pearls & Brass, Our Kid and more. Oh, and it also looks like we’ll be hosting a special advance screening of the new Sophia Coppola movie, Marie Antoinette, as well. Details are being ironed out as we speak. For sponsorship info and booking info, please drop a line to tips[at]philebrity[dot]com.

littlansChances are, you don’t know The Littl’ans yet, but hot damn, you will. Philebrity will be presenting this London band’s Philly debut (and one of their first American gigs period) at the new Johnny Brenda’s music venue. And boy do we ever have the fever for this band, who, with no record deal and just word of mouth, have already cracked the UK Top 10 with their debut single, a duet with friend-in-shambolic-arms Pete Doherty. Check out The Littl’ans Myspace page for tunes and info, and see if you don’t fall in love with their sweet, smart Syd Barret-by-way-of-Television- Personalities-and-yes-of-course-Libertines ways.

shopJust in time for the Christmas season, shop.philebrity.com. We’ve been pondering this one for a while now, and it feels like a good time to let it drop.
