G-Town Radio Launches, Makes This Whole Xponential Music Thing Look Kinda Square
From deepest bowels of Germantown comes an unexpected, and possibly very awesome, thing. Positioning itself as both community radio and an outpost for the forthcoming Philly WiFi rollout, it’s a streaming radio station that’s surprisingly pleasing. Sayeth they:
Welcome to G-town Radio, the sound from Germantown. This is an internet radio station broadcasting around the clock. G-town Radio is beyond eclectic, featuring new music, club tracks, African funk, indie rockers, hip-hop, mellow jams and so much more. Tune in and listen for yourself.
G-town Radio’s goal is to become an outlet for local content, community news and great music. Reaching as many local homes as possible is a key part of this equation. As Philadelphia prepares to roll out it’s wireless network G-town Radio will provide up to date information on what this means to you.
But most decent part of all of this is the playlist. Tune in right now, for instance: The Go-Go’s, Prefuse 73, Tipsy and The Robocop Kraus. Says programmer Jim Bear, “The whole day is an automated playlist for right now. The goal is to get live programmers on the air in the fall. In the meantime the mix of music is pretty diverse (exponentially better than anything else coming out of Philly).” Oh, snap! We didn’t even have to say it. But since he did, honestly: We’ve been giving Xponential a spin all week, and while the presentation and sound quality are fantastic, the playlist has had us wailing in pain more than once, and more than twice, and probably, if you must know, more than three times. Already on G-Town, we’ve heard two great tunes we never would have otherwise, and we’ve only been listening for 20 minutes. Damn. Radio pros, consider yourselves served. Oh man, they just played Haircut 100, and it’s not even one of the hits. Philadelphia, get into this.
