City Paper Beats Weekly To The Punch With Annual Dead-Of-Summer Non-Cover Story Cover Story

cpIt always happens: The summer bears down, the news cycle (especially in the always-the-last-to-know alt-weekly world) slows, editors start grabbing around for cover stories, and then, in a sleepy Tuesday meeting, somebody says, “Oh, I know! Let’s do a story where, like, we all just walk around a certain part of the city ON FOOT! And then everyone will WRITE ABOUT IT!” And then, the week-off grabber: “IT’LL BE LIKE A PHOTO ESSAY!” More summers than not, this dubious honor is bestowed upon Philadelphia Weekly, but not this time. This time, it’s CP who’s “thinking outside of the box,” which in the newspaper world is code for, “It’s hot, page counts are down, and we don’t give a fuck. Just print anything.” So to CP, we say, Congratulations! You’re really thinking outside the box.
