What If You Ran A Mayoral Campaign And Nobody Showed Up?
Hot off the heels of The Smoking Ban You Can Smoke Along To, Michael Nutter announces his candidacy:
But the event was hardly as grandiose as the one held by John F. Street on a Tuesday in February 1999 - when the then-Council president’s announcement that he was running for mayor drew the presence, and immediate endorsement, of then-Mayor Ed Rendell.[...] Still, if the crowd is a measure of his support, Nutter has a tough road ahead. None of his Council colleagues showed up; just one elected city official did, State Rep. Kathy Mandarino (D., Phila.), along with three ward leaders. They were Louis Agre (21st Ward), Terry Gillen (30th Ward), and Carol Jenkins (27th Ward).
Confindential to Jim Kenney: It’s not too late, dawg. This race is already clown-laden. Get in there. C’mon.
