In a shocker, more than 40 news staffers at CN8 in New Castle, Del., were laid off yesterday, effective Aug. 28, as part of Comcast’s plan to move away from regional programming and establish a more national presence.

CN8’s weekday newscasts at 1, 7 and 10 p.m. have their final telecasts Aug. 18, a network rep confirms.

Top jock Lou Tilley, anchor and executive producer of the 11 p.m. weekday Out of Bounds, made his last appearance Wednesday, the CN8 rep confirms. It was decided earlier this week that his contract, up earlier this year, would not be renewed.

Tilley’s 30-minute Out of Bounds will be replaced at 11 p.m. by a live, hour-long version based in Boston.

Lynn Doyle’s Philadelphia-based It’s Your Call, one of CN8’s more popular shows, remains untouched at 9 p.m. weekdays. (Of course, being married to Comcast honcho Mike Doyle doesn’t hurt.)
