Philebrity Wonders: Is Tonight The Night We Lose Iverson?

aiThe scuttlebutt is everywhere and nowhere at the same time ‚Äî not so much in the Daily News, but all over that bastion of reason and thought, 610 WIP. And it all bodes even more darkly than usual: Tonight, at the NBA Draft, the Sixers could finally wind up trading Allen Iverson. Anyone could see the reason in this: The stagnant Sixers need a major change, and themselves are professing a desire to “change the culture” of the team, and nothing would change the culture more drastically than taking away the little dude with the indecipherable tattoos and $500-a-week cornrow budget who scores all the points. Says a source close to the game: “Usually, the Sixers flat out deny any Iverson trade rumors. Now, they are literally saying…It IS going to happen if the right deal is there.” Can you imagine the heavy sigh all over the city that this would predicate? The end of an era, indeed. And so much potential, so much greatness, so squandered. So Philly. Sigh.
