PHILEBRITY EXCLUSIVE: Wolfmother/Captiol Years Mashup Time!
Every once in a while, we hear from this dude called Scud Nelson ‚Äî he’s one of our “crazy regulars,” a la Non D. Plume or Collin Flatt, those kind of people who saunter up to the bar every once in a while and drop such a load of B.S. on you that, by the time it’s over, it’s way more fun to believe who they say they are or what they’re saying than it is to get tied up in old ideas like veracity, accountability, etc. Because really: Who cares. Anyway, our pal Scud is a major Capitol Years fan, who (we think) probably got turned on to Aussie rockers Wolfmother a few weeks ago when we mentioned how much we were digging them. And like all of the crazies, Scud is a conspiracy theorist, and instantly noticed the uncanny likeness between Wolfmother’s hit single “Woman” (hey, it’s a hit to us, anyway) and the Cap-Yrs’ gem from a few years back, “Jewelry Store.” “The people have got to know about this abomination of one of our hometown treasures,” wrote Nelson when he sent us this, “and so I mashed them up to prove the point.” Well, the “point” ‚Äî all great riffs share the same DNA? Australians will steal you blind if you let them? ‚Äî is still kinda lost on us, but God damn if this thing isn’t, as they say in the studio, in the pocket. You be the judge.
