This Weekend: Noah’s Ark
FRIDAY:
>>> Good God, it’s been a dog’s age since we heard from the city’s premiere gay rap group, V.I.P. They’re on a bill at the First Unitarian Church with Limp Wrist and a bunch of other crust bands that you will definitely not be seeing. In fact, we’re kind of afraid for the boys. To bolster their spirits and yours, just before the sky opens up and rains Bad Weekend all over you, check the sounds:
V.I.P.: “Butt Wallz” [mp3]
V.I.P.: “Spooky” [mp3]
V.I.P.: “Teen Dream” [mp3]
>>> Like the moth to the flame, [Click.] returns to Fluid and some apparent Hot Chip listening/giveaway action. (Their new record, by the way, is weirdly Hall and Oates circa “I Can’t Go For That,” and we are loving every minute of it in the office.)
SATURDAY:
>>> Bleached Black brings the mongo back to Medusa, or if you prefer a spicier nomencalture, “Kyle & Manny’s Basement of Death!” And not for nothing, the 3D poster? Sweet.
>>> Also back on the block: DJ Deejay’s Beatles & Stones! We’re pretty excited about this one. For the uninitiated: This is a night featuring only and nothing but the music of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Who, it has been known, “sucked the marrow from the bone. Put the V in Vietnam. The Beatles and The Stones, made it good to be alone.” Sigh. The M Room, Frankford & Girard.
>>> “Dear Money Claus? This is Philebrity. Can we have $800? We need it to buy new sunglasses and go see The New Cars and Blondie at the Borgata. There are cookies and milk out for you in the kitchen. Say hello to the reindeer for us!”
SUNDAY:
>>> Two of our most favored Philebrity Player alumni, Espers and Brightblack Morning Light, hit the FU Church as well. And be nice to them. Local coverage be damned, Espers have secret Black Sabatth risings in them yet. And from road reports, we hear that Brightblack is blowing minds nightly. This is a good one. 8pm, $10.
>>> Then, curiously, Fairport Convention at the Tin Angel.
>>> Lucky Louie.
