Developing: Move To Philly Versus Move To Philly
Earlier this week, we linked to a Daily News article that revealed the work of a group of NYC ad students whose assignment was to come up with a campaign for a simple idea: “Move To Philly.” The DN ran the proposed ads, the city agreed almost instantly that the campaigns blew, parody ensued, and generally everyone had a pretty good time with it. Except for our friends Laris Kreslins and Kendra Gaeta, who some readers will recall as the brains behind Move To Philly, our partners in things like South By Southwest and pierogi night.

Laris and Kendra’s Move To Philly is a service they provide to those considering a move here; prospective transplants email in via their website, tell MTP what they’re into, and the service crafts a tour for them, specifically suited to their needs. When they saw the fake campaigns ‚Äî and how lame they were ‚Äî they got a little pissed, and rightly so: At no point in the process were they notified that their name was being used. (And it’s not like they’re hard to find ‚Äî Google “Move To Philly” and guess who comes up first.) So they bitched. Today comes word from Kreslins:
We got interviewed [by the NY Metro] about this, especially regarding them using our URL without permission and designing a dumb logo for us.
Unfortunately they chose not to quote us.
We’re going to write a letter to the editor.
Also, Peter Kain (the teacher who came up with this idea) wrote us to apologize too. We responded and we’re writing a letter to the editor of the Daily News as well.
Couldnt they make up their own URL for the campaign? Like www.hipsterflight.com? Or www.thegreathipsterexudus.com? Or www.wellgowhereyoutellustogo.com

Jeez is right. But nobody, it seems, has noticed the punchline in all of this. From the NY Metro:
Their instructor Peter Kain, a transplant from Philadelphia, had the students present their ideas to one of the city’s advertising firms, Gyro Worldwide Advertising Inc.
Fuckin’ Philadelphia, man. You gotta love it.
