Said doctrine is/was Dick Cheney‘s Oval Office response to 9/11, a paranoid inversion of the usual national security odds-making. In short, if there is a one percent chance that something terroristic might happen, we must respond as if there is a 99% chance. In other words, Hello Iraq! Or how the whole world came to hate America. Also, check out the excellent second hour of yesterday’s Radio Times when Marty had on author Charles Shields, who spent 40 years researching his bio of To Kill A Mockingbird author and In Cold Blood researcher Harper Lee, perhaps the most high-profile 20th Century literary recluse this side of JD Salinger. Seriously, fascinating stuff.
