This Week On The Philebrity Player: REGINA SPEKTOR
Not for nothing, it’s been feeling a little male up here in the Philebrity Player treehouse of late, so this week’s featured artist, Regina Spektor, feels especially like a breath of fresh air. You might recall Spektor as the anti-folk street urchin (but a hot street urchin at that) who first turned up on the second Strokes record, but be warned: Those expecting Lower East Side doldrums and pitstains could be disappointed. Spektor’s voice is sultry and whimsical at the same time, and the sturdy tunes that support it worm right in upstairs. Her forthcoming record, Begin To Hope, is unabashed pop that even Mom could like. (Hi, Mom!) This week’s player features 6 songs from Begin To Hope, which isn’t out until June 13. So what you’re getting is, as always, the new steez, way before anyone else, unless you count rock critics. But seriously: Do we even need them anymore?
