Smerconish: Why Not Make The DN ‘The RICH People’s Paper’?

First, you paid $562 million for a mouthpiece. Don’t be afraid to use it. I can understand pledging not to interfere with reporting because of potential conflicts, but there is no reason that your voices - new voices - shouldn’t be heard on the editorial page. Opinion pages exist for views. Why should yours be excluded because you own the newspaper?

And the opinions expressed in both newspapers are largely out of the mainstream in this area. Change that. Not only for the sake of balance, but for the sake of business. It’s OK to endorse John Kerry for president. But to do it for 21 straight days is to rub many of your readers’ faces in it.

Second, while both papers are long overdue for a rightward move, no matter what the politics are on the editorial page, just be sure they remain there.

Hey Mike, aren’t you supposed to be training for your big fight with that liberal pansy from the Huffington Post? How come all of you big, tough righteous conservatives are afraid to get in the ring and fight like a man? Why is it that tough talkin’ guys like you always hide behind skirts of enlisted men like the guy on the cover of todays’s DN, who got his legs blown-off so that, best we can tell, our President can prove his dick’s bigger than his old man’s. Do you have any idea what kind of message that sends to the terrorists and the Mexicans? You know they laugh at you while they mow your neighbors’ lawns, right? Please let us know when you find your balls, or put a pair on your American Express card.
