“I’m Sorry, Ma’am, We Don’t Allow Ping Pong OR Cocaine At… THE RUBA ARTS CENTER?”
From a press release volleyed over the transom last night, reportedly discussed at last night’s Northern Liberties Neighborhood Association meeting…
The Proposed “RubaArtsCenter”
TheRubaArtsCenter(to be located on the sight of the former RUBA Club) will from the start be steeped in the City’s rich cultural tradition, as well as the Neighborhood’s unique charm. The Center will provide a community resource that presents and attracts enriching, quality talent and productions. It will also be a community-oriented cultural and educational stop — maybe on the path to stardom - or maybe just off the beaten path for a little food and drink.
Hello, my name is G. Richand I am looking to purchase and save the rich culture of the structure currently known as the RUBA Club (414-416 Green Street) in Northern Liberties. The building will remain in-tact, undergoing only repairs and minor cosmetic changes. However, the services and patrons will be:
Oh, just wouldn’t you like to know! More wildness after the jump.
TheNew “RubaArtsCenter”housing a small dinner cabaret-theater space showcasing quality arts performances and lectures in a relaxed upscale but community-friendly setting. The second floor theater would be a rehearsal/performance space presenting dance and staged productions, along with a film series and discussions. The space will also provide a high-definition video studio with both for-profit and non-profit film productions. Artists and staff will be required to work with patrons and the community to make time for curious learners and arts enthusiasts.
Rounding out this exciting arts center will be the non-profit 501(c)(3) “Physics” Fund Library. Not just what you typically think of as Physics, but supporting educators and experimenters of everything involving “Physics” (artists and the performing arts). The Library will house a collection of books on Physics as well as dance materials, non-profit arts and community programs, and philanthropic ventures - which include an endowed charitable fund.
I lived in Northern Liberties for ten years and look forward to living back onGreen Streetand utilizing the contacts and experience I have gained to bring an exciting arts and entertainment facility to an already amazingly creative neighborhood. My partner and I have a successful track record of development with some ofPhiladelphia’s finest artists and non-profit arts organizations, including the Film Festivals, theater companies, and an arts institute for people with disabilities.
From a neighborhood meeting place and source of education and culture, to a destination performance space, Ruba Arts Center will highlight an already great neighborhood and help to nurture young talent looking to perform, produce, or support the arts in Northern Liberties.
Please support this venture or at least come hear my proposed plan. It cannot and will not happen without your support.
