This Weekend: In Your FACE!

Friday:
>>> Yo, we were just cruising the listings for tonight and we realized a pretty interesting thing: There is absolutely fuck-all going on in the city of Philadelphia this evening. Except for ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS. After weeks and weeks of Fridays where you had a choice between Abso and Spintos and Making Times and Spin The Bottle and godknowswhatelse, there’s seriously nothing. Except for ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS. And it just so happens that this is the week where Absolute Beginners goes out of its god-damn mind. We’re throwing the rule book out the window: Kyle, Manny, Russell and Mike are back downstairs, playing not just soul but whatever the fuck they want as well: Glam, rock, punk, anything to make the blood pump and the heart party. Meanwhile, upstairs, it’s the return of Ron Morelli to Absolute Beginners, making his upstairs debut with Funk #49 aka GABE and, seriously, all bets are off: French house. Gay disco. Le Rock. We’re even requesting some goddamn Babyshambles, and you know what? We might just get it! Because there’s no rules! Everyone else died and we’re the only party in town! We promise we will get you so fucked up. Make sure to bring someone to hold your hair. ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS: Because choices are for pussies. Every Friday at Metro Lounge, Front & Fairmount, 9pm-2am. $5. Next Week: Guest DJ KYLE FROM TROUBLE EVERYDAY. That’s right, we went there.
>>> OK, we fibbed a little: A-Sides/Walker Lundee are The M Room; and The Future Tips play with Grammar Debate and Run, Runner at the North Star. You need the knowledge? Here’s a cut off that new Future Tips CD:
Future Tips: “No Sympathy” [mp3]
Saturday:
>>> Breaking: A.D. Amorosi mauled by angry homosexuals! Just kidding. He is the DJ at this edition of Elevate at Key West, however.
>>> When you warn’t lookin’, the Buried Beds went and put out a CD, finally. Somewhere, triple-A hearts are warming. For their release show at the North Star, they went and decided to pay homage to their humble beginnings as a duo, enlisting 1-2 combos from the Capitol Years, National Eye, the Teeth, Like Moving Insects, Red Heart the Ticker, Galactic Federation of Love and Mitch Fiction and the Shits to open up the show. This sounds like a nice time. And for real: If you haven’t heard the Beds yet, well, they’ve only just made one of the nicest Philly ballads this side of TSOP, so dig.
Buried Beds: “Camellia” [mp3]
>>> Dive Bar, that bar next to the Royal Tavern that nobody goes to, totally jacks the PalarČ idea with Hipsters Vs. Homos. Good luck with that, guys. (Btw: PalarČ is back at Silk City next Saturday night and is the unofficial offical post-Belle & Sebastian hang. Like how we snuck that in there? In your FACE, Dive Bar!)
>>> Speaking of Silk, Jaiko is BACK! Mon Mon Mon Amour at Silk City.
Sunday:
>>> Last day of Olympics! Do it!
>>> Socket!
>>> Catch Derailroaded, just one of the many, uh, “zany” choices available in The Backseat Film Festival going ’round the next few days.
