Philadelphia Weekly Cleverly Trolls For Feature Topics For The Next Year; Winds Up Instead With Yet Another Totally Boring Issue

nextA few weeks ago, we actually downloaded the reader survey for the “Next Philadelphia” issue of Philadelphia Weekly. We were going to put our own answers in, and ask that everybody copy and paste, and clown the paper on a mass level. Initially, our idea was to send a giant Bronx cheer their way; after all, the whole concept of “you-tell-us-what’s-awesome” seemed like a giant “I give up,” not to mention a heavy, lazy sigh in which the rag hoped that people would feed them their next 14 Kate Kilpatrick features. But a funny thing happened on the way to Wordpress: We actually started feeling bad for them. And also, we fell asleep while filling out the questionnaire and drooled all over the place. So now the “Next” issue drops, and holy shit, our initial instincts were right. Punchline: Nobody filled out the q&a anyhow, and it’s relegated to a footnote at the end of the cover, and meanwhile, what’s next is apparently Phoenixville, human interest stories about high school athletes, Oscar’s Tavern (way to get out of the neighborhood, guys) and, ahem, Fishtown. Yawn. See what happens when we try to be nice?
