This Weekend: Absolutely Be-gob-u-lous

absoFriday:
>>> We tried it last week, and we loved it so much, we bought the company! And so this week, our winter weekly Absolute Beginners begins. Our formula is simple: Pack two floors and five rooms of sweet club (actually, we forgot “The Sawdust Room” so that makes it six) with the coolest people we know. Shake, and serve. Upstairs? Soul. Downstairs? Sleaze. This week’s special guests: Emynd and Bo Bliz from White T’s and White Belts doing it right, downstairs. Meanwhile, Kyle Miller, Manuel Dominguez Jr. and Mike Trombley pump raw soul 45s straight to the dancefloor what with the stripper poles and leather beds, and if you think we’re kidding, you must know that we are most certainly not. Metro Lounge, Front and Fairmount Sts., 10pm, $5. $5 PBR and Jameson ’til midnight, $3 Lagers throughout. Just so you know what you’re getting into.
>>> Meanwhile, it’s the return of Making Time at Pure. This one’s original recipe, with Sorted on the main floor, Rock Tits downstairs and Julian S Process and Adam Sparkles in the mez. Sho-ya-right.
>>> And of course, Pearls And Brass record release at The Khyber, with ó whoa ó The Photon Band and Jack Rose. Jesus, you people have your work cut out for you.
>>> Oh, and earlyside, be sure to check out THE POLICE ARE HERE! the new show of drawings, paintings, sculptures, and photos by rising Philly art star Anthony “TC” Campuzano. His last show, “Mr. Anthony Goes To School” blowed minds all over, and this one will fuck with you even more. Plus rare, newly unearthed drawings by James Castle. Fleisher-Ollman Gallery, 5:30-8pm, free.
Saturday:
>>> We were just fucking around on the Internet, and we accidentally uncovered the JAM OF THE WEEK. You ready? It’s by Nouveau Riche, that crazy rock band with Dice Raw that used to be called The Disease, except there were probably like 15 other bands called The Disease. Peep it:
Nouveau Riche: “Wait A Minute” [mp3]
Catch them at The Five Spot with Lilly Ruth and Casual Viking, some kinda benefit we couldn’t find any info about, 9pm.
>>> I think we can guarantee that on Saturday, Brute Force will be the only Apple Records recording artists playing in Philly. Yes, that Apple Records. Secret Cinema presents at Tritone with Mr. Unloved, and gosh, this sounds fun. More info here.
>>> Madonna Michael Prince at Silk City. We hold these truths to be self-evident.
Sunday:
>>> Whhhhhoooooaaaaaaaaaaa DEERHOOF! Seriously the best of the animal bands. Honestly. Don’t even act like you don’t know. We don’t have tickets for you, but damn it if we didn’t just jack your weekend soundtrack from the R5 site. Deal with it:
Deerhoof: “Running Thoughts” [mp3]
Deerhoof: “Wrong Time Capsule” [mp3]
Deerhoof: “Milk Man” [mp3]
Deerhoof: “Dummy Discards A Heart” [mp3]
Loads of Frisco videoartnoise rounds out the bill, First Unitarian Church, 7:30pm. We are guessing it will sell out.
AGNEW UPDATE: “dont know if anyone cares - but the dude who played fake kurt cobain in that last days movie (and i guess is kinda famous?) is now playing with Deerhoof , with his band PAGODA.” Like wow.
>>> And then how about a little Socket to make it all nice. You’re definitely not going to work on Monday now.
