This Evening: Paradise By The Adult Bookstore Lights
>>>Sorry, but you can count the awesome gay contributions to the pop pantheon of the last 25 years on like one hand. Let’s see, there’s Rufus Wainright, there’s, um, Dead or Alive and Pet Shop Boys and Magnetic Fields, there’s, um, wait, is Elton John gay? He is? OMG! And don’t even get us started on Pansy Division. Anyway, the reason we bring it up is that a definite one of those contributions comes from the whole Paradise Garage scene of the early ’80s, where funky was punky and God damn, it was all pretty friggin’ gay. Ron Morelli and Mike Trombley (pictured) have a new monthly Paradise-ish tribute night that launches tonight, and it’s called Paradise At Key West. Sez Mr. Morelli: “Expect Gwen Guthrie, Jimmy Ross, Gino Soccio, Liquid Liquid, Mr. Fingers, Adonis, Alexander Robotnik, Klein & MBO, INdeep and everything inbetween. Basically everything that was played at the Paradise Garage and the Music Box from 1982-1985. Crazy thing is alot of the clientele at Key West attended the Garage back in the day and they are psyched for this night of classics as there is no night in Philly solely dedicated to this music. I don’t know if you’ve ever been to Key West but it’s out of control, hands down the best venue in Philly.” Damn. We’re sold. Key West, 207 Juniper St. (between Walnut & Locust), 10pm, free, drink specials. Oh, and perhaps you cannot get enough of Mr. Ron Morelli? You don’t say!
>>> And as we said earlier, You can’t do much better than a cowboy.
