“There is no showing that Mr. Mariano is unable to understand the nature and consequences of the proceedings against him or to assist properly in his defense,” [U.S. District Judge Lawrence F.] Stengel wrote. “The decision to seek an evaluation for stress or depression is not an indication of a lack of mental competence.”

So, on one hand, this is good because Mariano retains some kind of, um, dignity, and on the other, this is bad because, well, non-crazy people go to jail.
