Readers Write: OMFG, Did You Hear What They Just Said On Gilmore Girls?
We learned two things when we checked the email this morning. One: Lots of you actually watch Gilmore Girls, apparently intentionally. Two: Almost as many of you had a full-on kiniption during last night’s episode. Something along the lines of this:
OMG! I’m watching the Gilmore Girls right now because that’s what gay guys do on Tuesday night, and Jessie, the brooding ex of Rory, moved to Philly. Apparently, NYC has gotten too expensive for Jessie and there are a lot of artists living in Philly. Also, there’s a book store on Locust that is carrying Jessie’s newly published book. Anyway, Rory referenced the NY Times article! She said she saw a picture of people on a roof who looked happy living in Philly. Can you believe it! That Amy Shemain-Palladino….
More freakouts and transcript after the jump.
so, I’m watching Gilmore Girls (oh, shut up. it’s cute. Sebastian Bach plays a guy named Gil who delivers sandwiches & plays guitar in the lead character’s best friend’s band. Carole King plays a crotchety musician who runs the town music shop. Grant Lee Phillips plays the town’s troubadour, & who else is giving that poor fuck work these days?)
so, anyway, I’m watching Gilmore Girls, & Rory Gilmore (the fresh faced 20something & younger half of the Gilmore Girls) gets a visit from her ex-boyfriend, the stereotypical bad-boy Jess, who she hasn’t seen in over a year. It goes a little like this:
Rory: So, where are you living now?
Jess: Philly… don?t laugh!
Rory: I wasn?t going to! Philly’s gotten cool.
Jess: & New York’s gotten expensive. But no, yeah, it has gotten cool. There’s a great arts scene, & a lot of young people there.
Rory: I read about that ó in the New York Times ó & there was a picture of a bunch of young people on a roof, with a pretty skyline. I mean, I’m pretty sure it was posed, but it looked like they were having a good time. They seemed to have merged Jess Press’s NYTimes piece with the G. Love Coke commercial.
Which makes me wonder- Despite my weakness for the Gilmore Girls, what with their fast-talking & references to Tom Waits & Pop-Tarts in the same breath, I recognize that it is indeed an advertising Trojan Horse, albeit of the My Pretty Pony variety. Did Meryl Levitz get to the writers & producers? Is the PCVB behind this shameless plug?
help me, philebrity. you’re my only hope.
We don’t know what to say. It’s only 10 o’clock. What a day already!
