On his radio show, that is.
“He sounded tired,” said Councilman Frank Rizzo, host of a Saturday afternoon talk show on WPEN (950-AM). “He didn’t sound like the Rick we all know.”
Reports are unconfirmed at press time whether or not [...]

>>> After a too-long hiatus, TESTIFY! returns to Silk City, and Lord, you know we lovey-dovey. Russ Alexander and Michael Lo drop the deep stone soul grooves, and be careful because going out into the rain all sweaty like that could definitely bring you the grippe.

[..] Their name comes from singer-songwriter Matt Pond and the state of Pennsylvania, where he used to reside before moving to New York. By now, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve heard about Rick Mariano’s brush with permanent Bud Dwyer status ó that is to say, dude totally lost it, almost fatally. And now come the questions and spin: Was he actually suicidal? Is this a crooked ploy for sympathy? Is he pondering a run for [...]

Let there be no mistake: “Oh Mandy” by The Spinto Band is quite possibly the greatest song by a Philadelphia band since “Nanny In Manhattan.” (Much love to MarathonPacks for that one, btw.) Before that, it’s kind of all Hooters and Robert Hazard, as the truly most galling thing about our Philly indie heritage is [...]

Dear Mom,
Living in Philadelphia is great! My professors all seem really cool, and I wanted to thank you again for the Target gift certificate. Everybody in English Comp thought my “Where’s The Beef?” shirt was retro and really funny, especially when I told them I was a vegetarian. (LOL) Anyway, I wanted to email you [...]

Jenice Armstrong discovers the phrase “man-crush” and wild idea that men can crush on/idolize other men:
I heard it for the first time last week on NBC’s “The Today Show.”
Well, I suppose that’s better than learning about it out the streets.

Oh grasshopper, the pathway to the spacefields of the collective consciousness is narrow. Many fall to the wayside; fewer still can navigate to the icy fortress of peace without forgetting why they left in the first place. But Black Dice? It is Black Dice who walk the righteous mindroad. Listen to the wind on the [...]

[Police Officer Kenneth] Wallace, a 31-year-old Muslim, has asked for an arbitration hearing to challenge the department’s 1/4-inch limit on the length of beards. Muslim city workers sued Philadelphia, the fifth-largest U.S. city, beginning in February to challenge grooming and dress codes they claim violate their rights to religious expression.

And never let it be said that it was for anything but totally JV (that’s “junior varsity,” bucko) shit. According to the DN, after being part of a pay-to-play city government since time immemorial, the Councilman has been nabbed on letting some steel company pay off his credit card debts. Which, you know, in the [...]
