Will “Black Tuesday” Inky & DN Cuts Destroy Both Papers?

Some folks at the American Journalism Review seem to think so, if only because, well, there’ll be no one left in the newsroom. Which kind of makes sense when you think about it.

Sure circulation is down, and the ad climate isn’t robust. But putting out an inferior product ó and that’s what cuts of this magnitude mean ó doesn’t seem like a brilliant strategy for turning things around.

On the other hand, by running to the suburbs, ditching the Sunday Inky magazine and feverishly putting up blogs written by non-bloggers, PNI doesn’t seem like it’s been much on editorial direction anyway. Maybe it’s just fate.
